Candle Care

Luminology soy candles are made with 100% soy wax and all natural wooden wicks. Our candles will burn long and clean with minimal care. Follow these tips to maximize your soy candle’s performance.

The first burn
The first time you burn your 7.5-ounce soy candle, you should burn for 3-5 hours or until the melt pool (liquified wax on the top layer of a burning candle) nears the inside edge of the vessel. Each time thereafter, burn until you’ve fully re-established the melt pool to prevent tunneling. Burn times vary according to ambient temperature and humidity.

Caring for your wood wick
After burning your Luminology soy candle, the wooden wick will have a burnt top that should be removed. If you notice an overly large, licking flame you’ll know it’s time to trim the excess portion of the burnt wick. To trim, make sure the wax is firm and has completely cooled and simply use your fingers to pinch off the burnt top of the wick. A wick trimmer may also be used. For best results, remove all loose burnt wick edges and any trimmings that may have fallen onto the wax.

Where to place your soy candle
Place your Luminology soy candle away from drafty areas and on a heat-resistant, flat surface. It’s best to keep the candle out of direct sunlight to avoid discoloration of the wax. Do not move your candle while it is burning.

Cleaning
One of the benefits of soy wax is that it cleans up easily with soap and water. If you experience a spill of melted wax, simply clean with warm, soapy water. Once your candle has completely burned you may refill or repurpose the glazed vessel. To prepare the vessel for a candle refill or reuse, you’ll need to remove the metal wick tab and any remaining soy wax residue. Scrape underneath the wick tab with a blunt kitchen utensil to dislodge it from the inside bottom of vessel. Discard wick tab. Wash inside of vessel with warm soapy water to remove any remaining glue or soy wax residue. Once dry, your Luminology vessel is ready for refilling or repurposing!
